Opening June 20, Liz Kingsman's 2023 Olivier-nominated comedy work One Woman Show is making its U.S. premiere at Off-Broadway's Greenwich House Theater. The work began previews June 14 for a limited engagement through August 11.
Kingsman is making her New York stage debut in her new work, which is vaguely described in press notes as a "bold, irreverent, raw, moving, and triumphant celebration of adjectives."
“I am thrilled to bring this show to New York, the spiritual home of one-woman shows,” said Kingsman in an earlier statement. “Perhaps, in some sense, the piece has always existed there. And perhaps, in a very real sense, it hasn’t. I’m not interested in that distinction. I’m interested in storytelling. And I’m interested in spending the summer in New York City.”
The social satire features direction by the late Adam Brace, who passed away last month, and lighting design by Daniel Carter-Brennan. Joining the creative team for the Off-Broadway production are scenic designer Chloe Lamford, sound designer Max Perryment, and choreographer Joshua Lay.
The show arrives from the West End's Ambassadors Theatre where it played an extended run following engagements at Soho Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe, and Sydney Opera House.
Wessex Grove, led by Emily Vaughan-Barratt and Benjamin Lowy, Ambassador Theatre Group Productions, and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Live are serving as producers. Wagner Johnson Productions serves as general manager.
