Juliana Canfield, Emily Skinner, King Princess Will Star in Girl, Interrupted World Premiere Off-Broadway
Martyna Majok is adapting Susanna Kaysen's novel, which got a screen version starring Angelina Jolie in 1999.

Full casting has been found for the Public Theater's upcoming Off-Broadway world premiere stage adaptation of Girl, Interrupted, set to play the company's Martinson Hall May 13-June 21. Opening night will be June 4.
Pulitzer-winning playwright Martyna Majok (Cost of Living) is writing the book for the play with music, adapting Susanna Kaysen's memoir of the same name, which was also the source material of a 1999 film. Grammy-winning former Til Tuesday front-woman Aimee Mann is writing the music. Jo Bonney will direct.
Leading the cast will be Juliana Canfield (Stereophonic) as Susanna and singer-songwriter King Princess will make her theatre debut as Lisa, the role played by Angelina Jolie in the film. Emily Skinner (Suffs) will play Dr. Wick, alongside Ta'Rea Campbell as Valerie, Gabi Campo as Tori, Mano Felciano as Man, Mia Pak as Grace, Katherine Reis as Daisy, Sally Shaw as Polly, and Lauren Jeanne Thomas as Judy. Understudies Leela Bassuk, Eileen Doan, Gunnar Manchester, Anna Roman, and Rachel Stern will round out the company.
Kaysen's book, released in 1993, tracks her time in a psychiatric hospital, where she finds a surprising connection with many of the young women on her ward. The 1999 film adaptation starred Wynona Rider as Kaysen, opposite, in an Oscar-winning turn, Angelina Jolie.
The upcoming musical production will also feature choreography by Sonya Tayeh, scenic design by dots, costume design by Sarah Laux, lighting design by Heather Gilbert, sound design and original music by Dan Moses Schreier, hair and wig design by J. Jared Janas, prop management by Claire M. Kavanah, orchestrations and music supervision by Todd Almond, and music direction by Andrea Grody. Molly Meg Legal will serve as production stage manager, with Tiffanie Lane and Michael Medina as stage managers.
Material written for the musical previously comprised Mann's most recent album, Queens of the Summer Hotel.
The Public's premiere will be produced by special arrangement with Barbara Broccoli and Angelica Zollo.
