Beginning December 21, The Ailey organization is streaming their 2022 Opening Night Gala for free through January 2. The evening, performed at New York City Center and featuring special appearances by Honorary Chair and two-time Emmy winner Tamron Hall and honoree Denise Littlefield Sobel, is available via Ailey All Access, YouTube, and Facebook.
Along with highlights from the event's red carpet, viewers will be able to watch performance excerpts from Mauro Bigonzetti's Festa Barocca with Constance Stamatiou and The Ailey School students; Alvin Ailey's Night Creature with a score by Duke Ellington; Robert Battle's Unfold performed alongside Brandie Sutton singing an aria by Gustave Charpentier; Alvin Ailey's Revelations, and more.
Ailey dancers will soon embark on a North American tour in 2023 while Ailey All Access continues with streaming programming that will include highlights of Alvin Ailey's work including Blues Suite, Mary Lou's Mass, Hidden Rites, For 'Bird' - With Love, and Opus McShann January 5-11 in honor of the influential dancer, choreographer, and director. Ailey Extension will also host a workshop January 7 with Nasha Thomas.
