New York Theatre Barn is launching the 19th season of its New Works Series February 23, with an evening featuring excerpts from two original musicals, along with conversations with their writers. The performance will be held at Five Angels Theater in Manhattan.
90 Seconds, by Einstina Sneha and Obe Vermeulen, centers on India's 2001 Gujarat earthquake, and the surprising stories that emerged from its aftermath.
The Only Way Out, written by Déa Thatcher (Cabaret), centers on her grandfather, George Thatcher. The senior Thatcher was convicted of murder in England in 1963 for the so-called Mitcham Co-op Murder, the result of a botched robbery. Thatcher was wrongly accused, but sentenced to death. Always maintaining his innocence, Thatcher ultimately served 18 years of a life sentence before being released.
The February 23 performance will also stream live.
Both in-person and streaming tickets are available at NYTheaterBarn.org.
