The Laurie Beechman Theatre's The Beat of a Wandering Heart—The Songs of Marty Silvestri and Joel Higgins has added a live stream option for its final performance November 15 at 7 PM ET. The show has been performing since November 11.
Created and directed by Mark Nadler, the performances feature two-time Tony nominee Christine Andreas (On Your Toes!, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Oklahoma!), James Harkness (Ain’t Too Proud, The Color Purple, Chicago), George Dvorsky (The Connector), and Casey Borghesi.
The performers are backed by a four-piece band. The world premiere also has choreography by Harkness and musical arrangements by Nadler.
Silvestri and Higgins have created theatrical scores for shows in London’s West End (The Fields of Ambrosia) and Off-Broadway (Johnny Guitar: The Musical) as well as compositions for TV and film. This revue of their work is described as a "sung-through story of the thrills of being anywhere else, being with anyone else and, eventually, finding peace by coming home," according to press notes.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Mark Nadler on The Beat of a Wandering Heart,” said Silvestri in an earlier statement. “Researching and choosing material from our varied musical creations over the years was at first a bit daunting. I opened the vault of manuscripts, tapes, CDs, and vinyl LPs in my basement to find songs that Joel and I created as far back as the 1970s. We wrote for PBS’ Sesame Street and CBS’ Captain Kangaroo, followed by our bi-coastal years creating film and TV themes and scores, including a heartwarming score for Whistle, our only animated project. Chronicling that music became a welcome and rewarding experience for me.”
