Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes may have finished its run Off-Broadway June 18, but the production will live on forever as an Audible Original.
Starring Hugh Jackman and Ella Beatty, the production was the New York premiere of Hannah Moscovitch's searing interrogation of choice and consent in the modern age. The work centers on Jon (Jackman), an acclaimed novelist, a charismatic university professor, and a middle-aged man staring down the end of his third marriage. Enter Annie (Beatty) a 19-year-old star student and a huge fan of Jon’s work. As attraction draws them into dangerous territory, Moscovitch uses the slippery slope of perspective to highlight how things can go too far too fast, for all involved.
Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes will be released for listeners worldwide October 9, but Playbill has an early listen to a portion of the recording. Listen below.
The show played in repertory at Audible's Minetta Lane Theatre with Jen Silverman’s new adaptation of August Strindberg’s Creditors, starring Liev Schreiber, Maggie Siff, and Justice Smith.
The creative team included scenic designers Brett J Banakis and Christine Jones, costume designer Ásta Hostetter, lighting designer Isabella Byrd, and sound designer Mikaal Sulaiman. Ann James was the intimacy coordinator and Jim Carnahan was casting director. Merrick Williams is the production stage manager. Theatrical supervision was by ShowTown Theatricals.
