Clubbed Thumb has announced its 25th Summerworks festival lineup. The rescheduled festival will run May 20-July 2 at The Wild Project and feature productions of new plays California, Spindle Shuttle Needle, and Bodies They Ritual.

The Tony-nominated and Obie-winning theatre company often discovers and supports rising talent including never-before-produced playwrights.

Written by Trish Harnetiaux, California will be the first work staged, with a run May 20-31. Will Davis will direct the commission by Clubbed Thumb, which follows a family as their road trip takes an unexpected turn onto the plains of eastern Oregon. Harnetiaux's work has been previously developed with a number of New York City-based companies including Clubbed Thumb, Playwrights Horizons, Soho Rep, and more. Lucille Lortel-nominated director and choreographer Will Davis will direct.

Running June 6-16, Spindle Shuttle Needle is set in a cottage surrounded by an unending siege; inside, a group of women tell tales, do chores, and try to survive until the Market reopens. Written by Gab Reisman, the play will be directed by Tamilla Woodward, chair of the acting program at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University. Spindle Shuttle Needle won a 2017 Biennial Commission at Clubbed Thumb.

Lastly, Bodies They Ritual by Angela Hanks will run June 2-July 2. Another winner of a 2017 Biennial Commission at Club Thumb, the play presents a group of Texan ladies on a birthday trip to a Santa Fe sweat lodge and explores what bubbles to the surface as the women try to connect with a deeper sense of spirituality. The work will be directed by Knud Adams, who recently directed Sanaz Toossi's English Off-Broadway, a co-production of The Atlantic and Roundabout.

Spindle Shuttle Needle and Bodies They Ritual were originally slated to premiere at the 2020 festival, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
