On April 26, the 2019 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award honors Susan Hilferty, a Tony winner for her work on the Broadway musical Wicked. The event also marks the 25th Anniversary ceremony of the award, established in 1993 where it was first presented to Irene Sharaff.
To celebrate the milestone anniversary, we're taking a look back at the designers who have been honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as the groundbreaking work which earned them their recognition. Notable past honorees have included Bob Mackie, Ann Roth, Florence Klotz, Desmond Heeley, and Willa Kim.

The Theatre Development Fund presents 2019 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards at the Edison Ballroom in New York.
Also honored at the ceremony April 26 will be scenic designer John Lee Beatty, who will be presented with the TDF/Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Lifetime Achievement in Theatrical Design; costume designer Miodrag Gubernic, who will receive the TDF/Kitty Leech Young Master Award; and costume designer Rodney Gordon, who will be awarded the TDF/Irene Sharaff Artisan Award.

Given by writers on New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers and national publications, the awards honor the 2021-2022 Broadway and Off-Broadway season.
The Broadway production of The Lehman Trilogy received nine nominations, while the Off-Broadway musicals Harmony and Kimberly Akimbo earned eight nods each.
