Music Theatre International has released a newly revised version of Frank Wildhorn musical Wonderland.
Inspired by Lewis Caroll's Alice in Wonderland, the musical tracks an adult Alice returning to the fantastical land of Wonderland after her life falls apart. Back through the looking glass, she again encounters the Cheshire Cat, a dotty Queen of Hearts, and the Mad Hatter, and ultimately learns the power of new love.
The work played a brief Broadway run in 2011, with music by Wildhorn, lyrics by Jack Murphy, and a book by Gregory Boyd and Murphy. The new version reflects an iteration that premiered at Utah's Tuacahn Center for the Arts in 2022, featuring a revised book by Jennifer Paulson-Lee and Gabriel Barre.
“I am so excited to bring Wonderland to you and that it will be a part of my dear MTI family,” says Wildhorn in a statement. “MTI has taken care of so many of my shows over the years, and I am so grateful to them. Wonderland has been such a joyful piece to create, and a joyous adventure around the world. There's a song in the show that says, ‘I am my own invention.’ I would say to use this as a guiding light as you have your own Wonderland adventures. Remember, Wonderland is in our lives every day!"
“We are so grateful to welcome this thrilling show to the MTI family,” adds MTI President and CEO Drew Cohen. “Wonderland will let theatres dazzle audiences with this reimagined, contemporary journey through Lewis Carroll’s world of wonder, whimsy, and self-discovery.”
Theatres producing Wonderland, or any of MTI's catalogue, can make their own Broadway-quality Playbill programs using PLAYBILLDER, Playbill's fully customizable program creation platform—the only authorized way to have a real Playbill, complete with the iconic yellow-and-black logo, at a school production. Users can auto-populate their program with all the MTI-approved data for the show, including billing information and song and character lists.
