Hue Park and Will Aronson's Maybe Happy Ending, the 2025 Tony winner for Best Musical, has joined the licensing library of Music Theatre International. With the work's Broadway run continuing at the Belasco Theatre, the work is currently not available for new productions.
The musical follows two South Korea-based Helperbots that have been deemed obsolete. The pair form an unlikely bond, setting off a surprising and romantic adventure. Park and Aronson wrote the show simultaneously in both English and Korean, premiering the show in 2016 in South Korea before bringing it stateside, first to Atlanta's Alliance in 2020 and a Broadway bow in 2024. The musical was the most Tony-winning show of last season, with Aronson and Park also winning for the score, book, and Aronson's orchestrations. The show was also one of three productions to be the most nominated of the season, with nods in 10 categories. See the full list of 2025 Tony winners here.

“Maybe Happy Ending is one of those rare musicals that feels both timeless and utterly fresh," says MTI President and CEO Drew Cohen in a statement. "It is funny, moving, and thought-provoking all at once. The characters of Oliver and Claire, though mechanical on the surface, tap into something universally human that resonates with anyone and everyone. We feel privileged to welcome Hue and Will and this wonderful show into the MTI family and look forward to theatres everywhere experiencing Maybe Happy Ending’s power to entertain and inspire.”
“Maybe Happy Ending was first produced in Korea before making its way to Broadway. It’s been so exciting to see how different audiences and artists respond to the show," says Park. "We’re thrilled that the show will now be in the hands of new performers and directors across the world, who will interpret the story in their own unique ways. We can’t wait!”
“This is a musical about connection, and the possibilities that come from taking risks. Our main characters face the world with fresh eyes, and we hope their story continues to inspire new audiences to look for what is best about being human," adds Aronson.
