Tony winners Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss go behind the lyrics for SIX the Musical fans in a new video. Pulling lines out of a bowl, the two creators even discuss the development of Moss' favorite line: "I look more rad than Lutheranism." Check out the video above.
Six follows the six wives of King Henry VIII of England: Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Catherine Parr. The royals tell their stories in a historical remix that turns the Tudor women into pop queens.
Marlow and Moss won the 2022 Tony Award for Best Original Score, with Marlow making history as the first out nonbinary composer-lyricist to win a Tony Award. Six is co-directed by Moss and Jamie Armitage. The production features set design by Emma Bailey, costume design by 2022 Tony winner Gabrielle Slade, lighting design by Tim Deiling, and sound design by Paul Gatehouse. Kenny Wax, Wendy and Andy Barnes, George Stiles, and Kevin McCollum serve as its producers on Broadway.
Based on the 1985 film, the musical centers on teenager Marty McFly when he is accidentally transported back to 1955 in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by Dr. Emmett Brown.
The work, which made its world premiere Off-Broadway in 2022, takes place in an Iranian classroom where adult students practice for an English language proficiency exam.
Patti LuPone, Gabby Beans, Susan Stroman, André Bishop, and more are featured in this special look back, along with clips from War Horse, The Light in the Piazza, South Pacific, and more.
