The Aspen Music Festival and School and Theatre Aspen's concert production of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's The Sound of Music is presented July 25–26 at 7:30 PM in Aspen's Benedict Music Tent.
Directed by Marc Bruni (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), the evenings have music direction by conductor Andy Einhorn (Hello, Dolly!), choreography by two-time Tony nominee Denis Jones (Tootsie), and a symphony orchestra comprising students from the Aspen Music Festival and School.
Christy Altomare (Anastasia) and Tony-nominated actor and Tony-winning producer Brandon Victor Dixon (Hamilton, The Color Purple, Shuffle Along…) head the cast as, respectively, Maria and Captain von Trapp. Ashley Blanchet (Waitress) is Elsa with Grammy winner Ana María Martínez as Mother Abbess and Grammy and two-time Tony nominee Brad Oscar (Mrs. Doubtfire) as Max.
These artists are joined by local youth performers, Theatre Aspen summer season company members, and singers from the Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS program of the Aspen Music Festival and School: Sydney Borchers, Megan Brilleslyper, Katharine Burns, Amelia Burshe, Eleanor Carroll, Valérie Filloux, Kayleigh Flynn, Chance Friedman, Claire Griffin, Peyton Herzog, Julia Holoman, Ye Ji Lee, Sally Swallow Maxwell, Nina Mutalifu, James Nottingham, Sierra Quint, Jessica Reese, Anna Riley, Logan Saad, Nijel Smith, Harry Spitteler, and Gabrielle Turgeon.
The Sound of Music features music by Rodgers, lyrics by Hammerstein II, and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, suggested by Maria Augusta Trapp's The Trapp Family Singers. Corby Kummer penned the concert adaptation.
