Following a London premiere earlier this year, But I'm a Cheerleader: The Musical will return to the The Turbine Theatre next month. The run will begin October 7 and continue through November 27 with a Gala Night scheduled for October 11.
The musical features a book and lyrics penned by Bill Augustin, music by Andrew Abrams, and direction by Tania Azevedo. Jamie Babbit conceived and directed the original film, which featured a screenplay by Brian Wayne Peterson. Casting for the upcoming run will be announced at a later date.
Based on the cult favorite film of the same name, But I'm a Cheerleader follows Megan, an all-American high school cheerleader with a perfect life—until her friends and family reveal they suspect her of being a lesbian, and send her to True Directions rehabilitation camp to set her straight.
"Today we unveil the return of But I’m a Cheerleader: The Musical at The Turbine Theatre," said Artistic Director Paul Taylor-Mills. "We had an incredible sell-out season earlier this year, and learnt a huge amount about the show we’re creating and indeed its audience. We’re committed to creating the best possible version of the show and are thrilled to have an opportunity to present it again this autumn.”
The musical first ran at The Turbine Theatre February 18–May 8. It was originally presented as part of MTFestUK at The Other Palace in 2019.
But I'm a Cheerleader is presented by Taylor-Mills and Bill Kenwright in association with Adam Bialow, and by special arrangement with Lionsgate.
