Rachel Tucker, Melanie La Barrie, More Will Go Into the Woods in London

The Olivier-nominated Bridge Theatre revival will get some new casting next month.

Bridge Theatre's Olivier-nominated revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woods will get some new cast members next month.

Beginning April 20, the Jordan Fein-directed revival will welcome Melanie La Barrie (Hadestown& Juliet) as The Witch, John Owen-Jones (Les Misérables) as the Narrator and Mysterious Man, Jack Quarton (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) as the Steward, and Rachel Tucker (Wicked) as the Baker's Wife. Hughie O'Donnell (King Lear), currently playing the Steward, will newly star as the Baker alongside the new cast. Also joining the company April 20 is standby Jodie Jacobs (Fiddler on the Roof).

They will join continuing company members Valda Aviks as Grandmother and Giant, Geoffrey Aymer as Cinderella’s Father, Bella Brown as Rapunzel, Chumisa Dornford-May as Cinderella, Jo Foster as Jack, Jennifer Hepburn as Cinderella’s Stepmother, Hana Ichijo as Lucinda, Julie Jupp as Jack’s Mother, Gabrielle Lewis-Dodson as Florinda, Gracie McGonigal as Little Red Ridinghood, Oliver Savile as Cinderella’s Prince and Wolf, and Rhys Whitfield as Rapunzel’s Prince, and standbys Taite-Elliot Drew, Jacob Fowler, Sophie Linder-Lee, and Chloe Saracco. Casting is by Stuart Burt.

Taking their final bows April 18 will be current cast members Katie Brayben as the Baker's Wife, Kate Fleetwood as the Witch, Michael Gould as the Narrator and Mysterious Man, and Jamie Parker as the Baker.

The production, booking through May 30, is currently tied with Paddington as the most Olivier-nominated production of the season. The revival is up for 11 categories, including Best Musical Revival, Director, Set and Costume Design (both for Tom Scutt), and more. Featuring a Tony-winning score by Sondheim and a Tony-winning book by Lapine, Into the Woods blends together the Grimm's Fairy Tales Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, and more. The title has become one of the most beloved in Sondheim's catalogue since it premiered on Broadway in 1988, and a mainstay at professional theatres and schools and amateur companies alike. This new revival is the show's first major London staging since 2016.

The production features scenic and costume design by Scutt (Cabaret), music supervision and music direction by Mark Aspinall, sound design by Adam Fisher, lighting design by Aideen Malone, video design by Roland Horvath, movement direction by Jenny Ogilvie, wig, hair, and make-up design by Sam Cox, and puppetry design by Cheryl "Chuck" Brown, Max Humphries, and Tom Scutt.

The creative team also includes production manager Chris Hay; props supervisors Jonathan Hall and Chris Marcus; associate director Georgia Green; associate musical director Alex Beetschen; associate sound designer Ollie Durrant; associate lighting designer Lucy Adams; associate set designer David Allen; associate costume designer Lucy Martin; assistant costume supervisor Lydia McDonald; wigs, hair, and make-up supervisor Charlie Watson; costume associate Dan Campton; and orchestra managers Andy Barnwell and Richard Weeden for BW Musicians. London Theatre Company is producing.
