Ride the Cyclone Will Get Another London Bow
The cult favorite musical is getting an encore at Southwark Playhouse Elephant.
March 16, 2026 By Logan Culwell-Block
Following last year's sold-out U.K. premiere, cult-favorite musical Ride the Cyclone is headed back to London's Southwark Playhouse Elephant for an encore boy June 19-August 22. Lizzi Gee will return to direct and choreograph. Casting, by Harry Blumenau, is to be announced.
Tickets will go on sale beginning March 18 at SouthwarkPlayhouse.co.uk.
Ride the Cyclone centers on six teenagers from a Canadian choir who die in a freak accident on a roller coaster. In limbo, a mechanical fortune teller offers one lucky teen the chance to return to life—if they can prove why they should be the one to go back. Ride the Cyclone features a book by Jacob Richmond, who co-wrote the music and lyrics with Brooke Maxwell.
The staging's original creative team will all be back to reprise their work, including music director and supervisor Ben McQuigg, set and costume designer Ryan Dawson Laight, lighting designer Tim Deiling, video designer Nina Dunn for PixelLux, sound designer Tom Marshall, illusion designer Richard Pinner, and associate director Eva Sampton. Toby P Darvill will be production manager, with Jack Maple Productions serving as general manager. Kevin McCollum, Morris Berchard, and Jack Maple are producing.
The show was first produced at Atomic Vaudeville in Canada in 2008 before making its American premiere at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre in 2015. An Off-Broadway run came in 2016, and the show has been produced at various theatres and colleges nationwide in the years since. A cast album was released in 2021. The show saw renewed interest thanks to numerous viral video clips on social media: The #RideTheCyclone hashtag is responsible for more than 325 million videos on TikTok alone.
"We couldn’t be more excited to bring Ride The Cyclone back for another ride," say McCollum, Berchard, and Maple in a joint statement. "We were delighted that we sold out our initial run, and are thrilled to be returning to Southwark in 2026 to give those who missed out on tickets the first time around a chance to Ride The Cyclone."
