London's MJ the Musical Closes February 28

The hit West End production of MJ the Musical concludes its award-winning run at London's Prince Edward Theatre February 28.

The musical, which won the Olivier Award for Best Choreography, will follow its two-year London engagement with a U.K. tour in 2027. Prior to the U.K. tour, the first-ever international Asian tour will launch in October, traveling to major cities around the world for an initial two-year period.

The London company is currently headed by Jamaal Fields-Green in the role of MJ, a part he has also played on Broadway and in the musical's national tour, joined by Matt Mills as Joseph Jackson/Rob, Mitchell Zhangazha as Michael, Philippa Stefani as Rachel, KoKo Alexandra as Katherine Jackson/Kate, Joshua C Jackson as Berry Gordy/Nick, Rohan Pinnock-Hamilton as Tito Jackson/Quincy Jones, Matt Gonsalves as Alejandro, Michael Conley as Dave, Kieran Alleyne as MJ Alternate and Standby for Michael, and Johnny Bishop and André Phipps as Standby for MJ and Standby for Michael.

Tony winner Myles Frost, who originated the role of Michael Jackson in the Broadway staging of MJ the Musical, opened the London production in March 2024.

MJ, which began Broadway previews December 6, 2021, at the Neil Simon prior to an official opening February 1, 2022, features a book by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage and a score made up of some of the most popular songs in recording history. Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon directs and choreographs.

The musical also has sets by Derek McLane, lighting by Natasha Katz, costumes by Paul Tazewell, sound design by Gareth Owen, projection design by Peter Nigrini, hair and wig design by Charles LaPointe, music direction by Jason Michael Webb, musical supervision by David Holcenberg, and orchestrations by Holcenberg and Webb. Casting is by Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher with young performer casting by Amy Beadel for Grindrod Burton Casting.

The Broadway production, which continues at the Neil Simon, took home four 2022 Tony Awards, including Best Actor in a Musical (Myles Frost), Best Choreography, Best Lighting Design in a Musical, and Best Sound Design in a Musical.
