Broadway & Beyond: Access for Stage Managers of Color has announced their forthcoming webinar on anti-racist stage management practices. Led by veteran stage managers Narda E. Alcorn and Lisa Porter, The Stage Manager’s Role in Building an Equitable and Compassionate Production Culture will occur April 5 at 2 PM ET.
The free webinar will give actionable practices and tools to assist stage managers in creating equitable workspaces. Registration is required by April 2 at 9 PM ET.
During the informational event, Alcorn and Porter will discuss collaboration techniques and share their personal experience working in stage management. The duo, both professors, published their debut book Stage Management Theory as a Guide to Practice: Cultivating a Creative Approach, in 2020. The same year, they co-authored the essay "We Commit to Anti-Racist Stage Management Education."
The organization Broadway & Beyond aims to provide professional guidance to aspiring and current POC stage managers through mentorship and job opportunities. Their past events include a virtual networking event, a webinar on building connections within the industry, and a résumé workshop.
