Students tour Broadway's Shubert Theatre as part of the 2026 Broadway League High School Broadway Shadowing Program

The 14th annual High School Broadway Shadowing Program, an initiative of The Broadway League, has concluded its season. The program connected 25 NYC public high school students with Broadway professionals for a unique, behind-the-curtain look at backstage careers. This year's program ran March 9-13.

This year's participants visited the Museum of Broadway and the Shubert Archive, sat in on marketing and management meetings, went on a private tour of The Shubert Theatre, attended tech rehearsals, watched a new show load-in, met with stage managers, and more. Participating general management offices included Alchemation, Bespoke Theatricals, Disney Theatrical Group, Foresight Theatrical, Lincoln Center Theater, RCI Theatricals, ShowTown Theatricals, and TT Partners. Partnering shows included Aladdin, & Juliet, Buena Vista Social ClubHadestownHarry Potter and the Cursed ChildMaybe Happy EndingMJOh, Mary!Operation MincemeatRagtimeStranger Things: The First ShadowThe Book of MormonThe Lion King, and Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York).

The program is the culmination of a two-part initiative that begins with a Broadway Career Exploration Day at Off-Broadway's Theatre Row, an event that this year saw 102 student attendees. The League's additional educational offerings include Broadway Bridges, The Jimmy Awards, Careers.Broadway, The Broadway League Internship Program, The Rising Stars Professional Development Program, and The Broadway League's Diversity and Inclusion Fellowship Program.

“The High School Broadway Shadowing Program reflects the simple truth that Broadway is comprised of far more than what audiences see on stage,” says Broadway League President Jason Laks in a statement. “By welcoming students behind the scenes, they are being introduced to the many career pathways that make Broadway run. We’re grateful to the participating shows and our partners at the NYC Public Schools Arts Office for joining to ensure the industry continues to evolve and grow to new heights.”
