Concord Theatricals is launching a "You're in the Band: School of Rock—The Musical Licensing Contest," which will give U.S. schools the chance to win a free, three-performance license and all rental materials for a production of School of Rock. Winning schools will be able to choose between the Broadway version of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical and its Young Actors Edition.

Ten schools will be selected as winners, with Title I schools and other schools and youth groups in under-resourced communities especially encouraged to apply. Winners will be selected by a set of adjudicators based on a variety of factors, including financial need, as well as the creativity of the submission. If selected, the student productions must occur between August, 2026 and December, 2027.

“We're excited to launch our Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock—The Musical licensing contest to under-resourced schools in North America, giving students and educators the opportunity to bring this feel-good family musical to their communities. We can't wait to see how they rock it out!” said Senior Vice President of Amateur Licensing Billie Davis in a statement.

Based on the 2003 film, School of Rock features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and a book by Julian Fellowes. The show follows wannabe rock star Dewey Finn who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school for some extra cash and turns a class of young students into a rock band—all while falling for the school's headmistress.

The work opened on Broadway in 2015, earning 2016 Tony Award nominations for Best Musical, Score, and Book. School of Rock went on to play London's West End and national tours in the U.S., UK, and Australia.

"During this very challenging time, it’s more important than ever to keep music and the arts as a central part of our education system," says Lloyd Webber. "School of Rock is a wonderful reminder that music is a fundamental building block in the lives of young people."
