Cabaret & Concert News Transport Group to Present Rodgers & Hammerstein: A Broadway Celebration

Hosted by Baayork Lee and Paolo Montalban, the concert will feature selections from Oklahoma!, Carousel, The Sound of Music, and more.

Off-Broadway's Transport Group has announced its next installment in the Anne L. Bernstein Concert Series will be Rodgers & Hammerstein: A Broadway Celebration. The concert will be held June 27 at 8 PM in Merkin Hall at Kaufman Music Center.

Baayork Lee, original Broadway cast member of A Chorus Line and The King and I, and Paolo Montalban, co-star of ABC's film adaptation of Cinderella seen on Broadway in The King and I, will co-host the evening.

A cast of Broadway veterans accompanied by a 24-piece orchestra will perform selections from a number of the duo's musical classics, including Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, The Sound of Music, and Cinderella. Performers include Mikaela Bennett (The Golden Apple), Sherry D. Bone (Ragtime), Donna Lynne Champlin (Sweeney Todd), Hannah Elless (Godspell), Danyel Fulton (Broadbend, Arkansas), Erika Henningsen (Mean Girls), Tony winner Rachel Bay Jones (Dear Evan Hansen), Sean McLaughlin (Phantom of the Opera), Betsy Morgan (The King and I), Tally Sessions (Company), Alexandra Silber (Fiddler on the Roof), Jacob Keith Watson (Carousel), and Sally Wilfert (Assassins). Further casting will be announced at a later date.

Along with the musical performances, the show will feature backstage stories and lore about the original productions. Jack Cummings III, Transport Group's artistic director, will direct. The evening, written by Hannah Oren, will also feature musical direction by Joey Chancey.

Transport Group, founded in 2001 by Jack Cummings III and Robyn Hussa, has produced 33 shows, including 17 new works, 16 revivals, three New York premieres, and six commissioned works.
