Beetlejuice is bringing pandemonium to the open water. The musical based on Tim Burton's 1988 film will debut on Norwegian Cruise Line's newest ship, Norwegian Viva, in August. It marks the first time the production has been performed at sea.
Set to play the ship's three-story Viva Theatre & Club, the show will star Michelle D'Amico as Lydia. Additional casting is to be announced.
Based on Tim Burton’s cult favorite film, Beetlejuice tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and Beetlejuice, a demon with a thing for stripes. When Lydia calls on Beetlejuice to scare away anyone with a pulse, this double-crossing specter unleashes a (nether)world of pandemonium. It features an original score by Tony nominee Eddie Perfect, and a book by Tony nominees Scott Brown and Anthony King.

The musical is currently on a North American tour with dates announced through October. Beetlejuice originally debuted on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre March 28, 2019 where it opened April 25, 2019. It earned eight Tony nominations, and returned to the Broadway after the COVID-19 shutdown. For its return, it played the Marquis Theatre where it concluded its Broadway bow January 8 of this year.
Norwegian Cruise Line has previously presented SIX, Jersey Boys, Footloose, and more across its fleet of ships. Norwegian Viva will make its maiden voyage later this year with journeys set across Greece and the Mediterranean through the fall before heading to Puerto Rico for voyages across the Caribbean.
