Broadway's Moulin Rouge! The Musical is headed back down under for an encore engagement in Sydney, Australia that will begin performances in March 2027 at Sydney Lyric Theatre. The musical, which is scheduled to complete a seven-year run on Broadway July 26, previously played the Aussie city as part of its Australian national tour, which closed in 2024.

Auditions will be held for an all-new, all-Aussie cast in Sydney March 16–21, and in Melbourne March 23–28.

Pre-sale tickets are available beginning February 23 at 10 AM AEDT with registration at MoulinRougeMusical.com.au. General sales will begin February 26 at 9 AM AEDT.

“Australian audiences embraced Moulin Rouge! The Musical with incredible passion. It was extraordinary to feel that energy in every city we played,” says Moulin Rouge! producer and Global Creatures CEO Carmen Pavlovic in a statement. "We heard from so many people who missed out the first time, and just as many who couldn’t wait to come back for a taste of the Spectacular. Bringing the production home again is a thrill for us. It’s what audiences asked for, and we’re delighted to deliver.”

Moulin Rouge!, based on the 2001 film, opened on Broadway in 2019 following a Boston tryout. The musical was subsequently nominated for 14 Tony Awards in 2020, winning 10, including Best Musical. It holds the record for the highest-grossing production in the 100-year history of the Hirschfeld.

The musical officially recouped its Broadway investment in late 2022 and is the only show that opened that season that is still running. Like all of Broadway, the production halted performances March 12, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was subsequently one of the key shows to lead the reopening of Broadway the following year, resuming performances September 24, 2021.

The production is directed by Alex Timbers with a book by John Logan (based on the Baz Luhrmann-directed movie of the same name) and choreography by Sonya Tayeh. The score features covers of "Firework" by Katy Perry, "Your Song" by Elton John, and "Chandelier" by Sia, among many other modern pop songs. The story takes place at Paris' famed Moulin Rouge and follows the tragic love story between performer Satine and composer Christian.

The production's music team includes musical supervisor Justin Levine, music producer Matt Stine, and music director Andrew Graham. Orchestrations are by Levine, Stine, Katie Kresek, and Charlie Rosen, with dance arrangements by Levine and Stine.

Also on the creative team are scenic designer Derek McLane, costume designer Catherine Zuber, lighting designer Justin Townsend, sound designer Peter Hylenski, hair designer David Brian Brown, and makeup designer Sarah Cimino, with creative services by Luhrmann and Catherine Martin. Casting is by Jim Carnahan and Stephen Kopel. Star casting is by Whitley Theatrical.
