International News New Production of 42nd Street Will Play Curve and Sadler's Wells Prior to U.K. Tour

Jonathan Church will direct with choreography by Bill Deamer.

A new production of the Tony-winning Broadway musical 42nd Street will play the Curve, Leicester May 17–June 3, 2023, followed by a limited engagement at London's Sadler’s Wells June 7–July 2. The production will subsequently tour the U.K. with dates to be announced.

Jonathan Church (Singin’ in the Rain, The Drifters Girl) will direct with choreography by Olivier winner Bill Deamer (Top Hat) and designs by Olivier winner Rob Jones. Casting and the full creative team will be announced at a later time.

Borrowing songs from old Warner Bros. movies, Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble wrote the book (based on the novel by Bradford Ropes and the film of the same name) for 42nd Street, Harry Warren wrote the music, and Al Dubin wrote the lyrics. The original Broadway production opened in August 1980, playing nearly 3,500 performances before closing January 8, 1989. The musical was nominated for eight 1981 Tony Awards, winning two, Best Musical and Best Choreography for Gower Champion.

42nd Street features such songs as “We’re in the Money,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” “Shuffle Off to Buffalo,” “I Only Have Eyes for You,” and the title tune. The use of all songs is by arrangement with Warner Bros. and EMI Publishing Ltd.

David Ian for Crossroads Live UK and Jonathan Church Theatre Productions will present the Curve and Sadler’s Wells production.
