Original jukebox musical parody We Ain’t Ever Gonna Break Up: The Hymon and Parfunkel Story, written by Jesus Christ Superstar national tour members Gregg Hammer and Louis Pardo, will have a 29-hour industry reading at Playwrights Horizons' rehearsal spaces. Developed with and directed by Scott Weinstein, the two-man folk show will hold presentations at 1 PM and 5 PM March 21.
Featuring the music and story of a band that's never existed, We Ain’t Ever Gonna Break Up parodies the tropes of jukebox musicals and bio-musicals. Follow Saul Hymon and Bart Parfunkel as they play themselves (and their own instruments), along with a host of other characters that play a role in their journey to stardom.
Hammer said in a statement, “We had always joked about the premise 'what if a folk duo wrote a hit song called 'We Ain't Ever Gonna Break Up,' and then became infamous for constantly breaking up?” But, according to Hammer, We Ain't Ever Gonna Break Up “really started as a way for a couple of best friends to write and sing some silly escapist comedy songs together.”
