A new play about James Baldwin by R. Jahan is getting two staged reading presentations at New York City Center's Harkness Studio February 13. Cooper Howell (Cats: "The Jellicle Ball") is directing.
Jahan will also star as Baldwin, opposite Noah Pyzik (Purlie Victorious) as Baldwin's longtime lover Lucien Happersberger. The work tracks the couple's troubles with a noisy upstairs neighbor and the American racism that affects Baldwin's ability to receive love.
The cast will also include Charlotte Bydwell (The Michaels) and David Blasher, the latter who will play his own original score on cello onstage.
Jahan has been seen Off-Broadway in The Survival, The Importance of Being Earnestly, Waiting for Gordon, and DREAMing Out Loud.
The project is being produced by Jahan, Pyzik, Howell, Deejay Gray, and Hampton O'Conner Palmore.
