Jude Taylor's Is He Musical? will premiere in three productions throughout the month of February staged across England, as well as a live-streaming digital production.
It will first premiere as a digital production performed live at the University of Wolverhampton, England, February 17 and 18. Next will be two live performances February 23 at Curve, Leicester as part of De Montfort University's Pride celebrations. Then, the musical will transfer as a semi-staged concert to London's Off-West End theatre The Other Palace for performances February 25 and 26.
Audiences can stream the film version on demand from February 19 to March 6. The streamed film will feature special events and bonus content as well.
This musical comedy draws upon true stories of queer friends in 1930s London. Set at the end of 1933, Laurence (Barry O'Reilly) and Wilfred (Teddy Hinde) are caught up in a furor of decadent nights out in the West End with their fellow queer friends, and with the looming fragility of their hidden world.
Alongside the production will be an immersive digital collection featuring historical insights, creative reactions, and accompanying Q&As and workshops.
Written and co-produced by Jude Taylor, the creative team also features director and co-producer Matt Powell, musical director Francesca Fenech, set and costume designer Ana Webb Sanchez, movement director Ryan Wiggins, musical supervisor-arranger George Strickland, dramaturg Sarah K. Whitfield, and violinist Adastra Fletcher-Hall. Historical contributions also came from Sacha Coward, Sheldon Goodman, Esme Sears, Miss Sundi, and students from University of Wolverhampton and De Montfort University.
