Tony nominee Will Swenson and the cast of Broadway's A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical joined Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show December 12 to perform "America." The musical officially opened December 4 at the Broadhurst Theatre where it began previews November 2.
A Beautiful Noise takes a look at the life of the Grammy-winning Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, then and now, accompanied by hits from his decades-long career in popular music. Neil Diamond released the song "America" in 1980 as part of the soundtrack for his film The Jazz Singer. The musical keeps the song's original ending lyrics in place of the modified version created following the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Swenson stars as Neil Diamond-Then, joined by Tony nomine Mark Jacoby as Neil Diamond-Now, and Tony nominee Robyn Hurder as Diamond's former wife Marcia. Rounding out the cast are Linda Powell, Jessie Fisher, Michael McCormick, Tom Alan Robbins, Bri Sudia, Kalonjee Gallimore, Alex Hairston, Jess LeProtto, Tatiana Lofton, Aaron James McKenzie, Mary Page Nance, Max Sangerman, and MiMi Scardulla, with Ninako Donville, Samantha Gershman, Makai Hernandez, and Robert Pendilla as swings.
