New York Pops Orchestra, originally set to open its season with One Night Only: An Evening with Adrienne Warren, will now kick off in Carnegie Hall with The Music of Star Wars October 21 at 8 PM. The concert, featuring musical direction and conducting by Steven Reineke, moves up in the season from its previously announced date of February 10, 2023.
The concert will feature music from all nine films of the Skywalker Saga (Episodes I-IX) as well as the franchise's two anthology films, Rogue One and Solo: A Star Wars Story. The music will be presented in chronological order.
"I am thrilled to be opening The New York Pops' 40th season with this concert featuring the iconic music of Star Wars and highlighting the incredible talents of our 78 orchestra musicians, including several who have been performing with us since our first season in 1983,” said New York Pops Music Director and Conductor Steven Reineke.
Taking on the concert's original February 2023 slot in the season will be Tony winner Heather Headley (Aida, The Color Purple) who will perform highlights from her time on the Broadway stage. Adrienne Warren withdrew from the season due to a scheduling conflict.
The season will continue with November 18's Broadway Blockbusters, featuring works by Leonard Bernstein, Alan Menken, Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and more. Jordan Donica, Nikki Renée Daniels, Matt Doyle, and Melissa Errico will star.
