The Library of Congress launches its yearlong America 250 celebration with a series of concerts and conversations about American music, all free and open to the public.

The Library of Congress has announced its 2026 Winter-Spring concert season, celebrating the 250th anniversary of America with a series of concerts, conversations, lectures, and more, exploring the history of American music with a dive into the library's collections. All events are free and open to the public with advance registration on the Library of Congress website.

Ted Sperling will conduct Loewe & Behold: Revelations from the Frederick Loewe Collection, an evening showcasing the composer behind My Fair LadyCamelotBrigadoon, and more. Scarlett Strallen, Bryonha Marie, Jonathan Christopher, and John Riddle will perform some of Loewe's best known works, as well as rarities from the library's Loewe Collection, which includes early German works, cut songs, and more.

The Library celebrates the acquisition of the Burt Bacharach papers in An Evening with Burt Bacharach. Broadway music director Andy Einhorn will lead a concert of the Promises, Promises songwriter's catalogue, featuring favorites, as well as rare pieces from the Bacharach collection.

Washington National Opera will preview their new production of Scott Joplin's Treemonisha with a special event featuring performers from the WNO Cafritz Young Artists program singing selections from the groundbreaking ragtime opera, which was awarded a posthumous Pulitzer prize in 1975. The evening will also include a panel discussion with WNO Artistic Director Francesca Zambello, mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, and composer Damien Sneed.

The concert series includes the world premieres of two Library of Congress commissions. On April 11, Pulitzer-winning Diné composer Raven Chacon will lead a performance of his own chamber and conceptual compositions, including a new work inspired by rare instruments in the Library's musical instrument collection. On April 18, Mimi Stillman will lead the Dolce Suono ensemble in a concert of chamber works by American composers, including the world premiere of David Serkin Ludwig's "Woman in Gold" for flute and string quartet.

The concert series will also include performances by Isata and Sheku Kanneh-Mason; mezzo-soprano J'Nai Bridges; countertenor Reginald Mobley, and more. To view the full schedule, and to register for events, visit LOC.gov.
