The Atlanta Opera has announced its 2026-2027 season, featuring seven productions, including classic and contemporary opera, as well as experimental works and musical theatre.

The season will kick off with two works exploring the 1914 World War I Christmas truce. Kevin Puts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Silent Night will run November 10-15, starring Kameron Lopreore, Sylvia D’Eramo, Luke Sutliff, and Aleksey Bogdanov. Iván López Reynoso will conduct the production by Tomer Zvulun. This will be followed by All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914, an a capella musical by Peter Rothstein, presented in a co-production with Atlanta’s Theatrical Outfit. All is Calm will run December 2-13, directed by Matt Torney.

Three classic operas will take the stage in 2027, beginning with Georges Bizet’s Carmen running January 30-February 7, 2027. Mezzo-soprano Rihab Chaieb will star as Carmen, alongside tenor Joshua Guerrero as Don Jose, baritone Łukasz Goliński as Escamillo, and soprano Andrea Carroll as Micaela.

Bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green will star in the title role of Richard Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman, running March 13-21, 2027, in a production directed by Tomer Zvulun. Iván López Reynoso will conduct the work, also featuring soprano Wendy Bryn Harmer as Senta, and bass Andrew Potter as Daland. The 1843 opera, based on the legend of the ghostly ship cursed to sail the seas forever, was a breakout hit for the young Richard Wagner, and shows the begins of his mature through-composed style with heavy use of leitmotifs.

Puccini’s Tosca rounds out the classic works, running May 1-9, 2027, in another production directed by Zvulun. Soprano Monica Conesa will star as the titular singer Floria Tosca, with tenor Jorge Puerta as her paramour, the painter Mario Cavaradossi. When Cavaradossi helps hide a political refugee, he and Tosca end up the subject of an investigation by the police chief Baron Scarpia, played by baritone Ernesto Petti. Iván López Reynoso will conduct Puccini’s verismo thriller.

The 2027 NOW festival, taking place in June 2027, will feature two productions: Dina Pruzhansky and Hai-Ting Chinn’s opera Rosenbaum and Li (Rose, Tree); and Tazewell Thompson’s a cappella musical Jubilee, which tells the story of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, which was founded in 1871 to raise money for Fisk University. Both productions will be presented at Morehouse College, with dates to be announced.
