London's National will help premiere a new musical Pride, adapted from the 2014 film of the same name. Based on a true story, the work follows a small group of gay men and lesbians during the 1984 miners’ strike who lent their support to a small village in south Wales. Tony winner Matthew Warchus (Matilda) will direct, after helming the film as well.
The London run will perform June 11-September 12, 2026, preceded by a preview fun at Sherman Theatre in Cardiff March 31-April 18, 2026.
The score will include a blend of protest anthems, pop, rock, disco, and the Welsh choral tradition, with a book and lyrics by Stephen Beresford and music by Christopher Nightingale, Josh Cohen, and DJ Walde. The creative team includes set and costume designer Bunny Christie, choreographer Lizzi Gee, lighting designer Hugh Vanstone, sound designer Bobby Aitken, music supervisor Tom Kelly, music director Jo Cichonska, and casting director David Grindrod.
Casting is to be announced.
