Ahead of its previously announced West End transfer from The National Theatre, Lyndsey Turner's Olivier-nominated production of The Cruciblehas announced House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock will make her West End debut in the Arthur Miller play. Performances will run June 7-September 2 at the Gielgud Theatre with opening night set for June 15.
Alcock recently starred as the young and rebellious Rhaenyra Targaryen in the Game of Thrones prequel series. She now prepares to play Abigail in Miller's take on the United States' 1692 Salem Witch Trials as a young woman whose words gain power as private vendettas become public accusations and the village descends into fear. Further casting will be announced at a later date.
The production's creative team includes set designer Es Devlin, costume designer Catherine Fay, lighting designer Tim Lutkin, sound designers Tingying Dong and Christopher Shutt, composer and arranger Caroline Shaw, and music director and arranger Osnat Schmool. Casting is by Alastair Coomer and Naomi Downham. They are joined by fight director Bret Yount, intimacy directors Ita O’Brien and Louise Kempton, and dialect coaches Danièle Lydon and Hazel Holder.
Olivier winner Lyndsey Turner's production of The Crucible originally ran at the National Theatre last fall (read the reviews here). It was nominated for the Olivier for Best Revival and Lutkin was nominated for Best Lighting Design.
The play comes on the heels of a broader cultural conversation about Dahl's work and the prejudice that was embedded in many of his most beloved stories.
The recording will be available on standard black vinyl, a limited-edition deluxe gatefold "pop-up" vinyl, and compact disc alongside digital versions.
The musical, a reinvention of Tim Burton’s cult classic film Edward Scissorhands, uses the pop music of Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Alanis Morissette, and more.
