More casting has been unveiled for the upcoming London return of Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper's Tony-winning musical Kinky Boots, set to strut into the London Coliseum March 17 for a 17-week engagement through July 11. The Coliseum run will follow a week of previews at Leicester's Curve that begins March 3.
As previously announced, the company will be led by Matt Cardle (The X Factor, & Juliet, Memphis) as Charlie Price alongside Johannes Radebe (Strictly Come Dancing, Burn the Floor) as Lola with Tosh Wanogho-Maud (Ain't Too Proud, Dreamgirls, The Book of Mormon), who is currently starring as Lola in the European leg of the touring production, as the Alternate Lola.
Newly announced to be joining them are Courtney Bowman (Pretty Woman) as Lauren, Billie-Kay (Burlesque) as Nicola, Billy Roberts (Mrs. Doubtfire) as Don, Rachel Izen (Mary Poppins) as Pat, Jessica Daley (Military Wives) as Trish, Jonathan Dryden Taylor (The Wizard of Oz) as Mr. Price, Scott Paige (The Great British Bake Off The Musical) as George, and Liam Doyle (Heathers) as Harry.
A youth company will feature Sean Garcia Madiba, Noah Ronkainen Phillips, and Rio-Blake Power as Young Lola and Archie John Allen, Joshua Beswick, Louis Cohen, and Callum George as Young Charlie.
Curve Artistic Director Nikolai Foster directs with choreography by Leah Hill, set design by Robert Jones, costume design by Robert Jones and Tom Rogers, musical supervision by George Dyer, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, sound design by Adam Fisher, casting by Harry Blumenau, wigs, hair, and make-up design by Campbell Young Associates, associate direction by Michaela Powell, and production management by Setting Line.
Based on the Miramax motion picture written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth, Kinky Boots features a Tony-winning score by Lauper and a book by Tony winner Fierstein. The original Broadway production, directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, played 2,507 regular performances and 34 previews at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, from 2013 to 2019. The international hit won six 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
The original Broadway company of Kinky Boots was headed by Billy Porter as indefatigable drag performer Lola, whose broken heel helps mend a broken wing for a foundering shoe-maker, originally played by Stark Sands. Both Porter and Sands were Tony-nominated for their performances; Porter won the Tony for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, and Mitchell won his second career Tony Award for his choreography.
Producers are ROYO, Runaway Entertainment, and Curve.
