Manhattan Theatre Club celebrates the official opening of Bekah Brunstetter's The Cake March 5. The Off-Broadway premiere, directed by MTC's artistic director Lynne Meadow, follows productions of the new play in Los Angeles, The Berkshires, and other locations.

In The Cake, a North Carolina baker (played by Debra Jo Rupp) is forced to re-examine her deeply held beliefs when her late best friend’s daughter asks her to make a cake for her lesbian wedding. Rupp, who is reprising the role of Della from previous productions, is joined Off-Broadway by Marinda Anderson (Teenage Dick, Far From Heaven), Genevieve Angelson (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, The Upside), and Dan Daily (The Rivals, Seabiscuit).

The Cake is playing at New York City Center – Stage I, where performances began February 12.
