The York Theatre, in association with Jim Kierstead, will present invitation-only staged readings of three new musicals this month as part of its ongoing Developmental Reading Series.
Face to Face, featuring a book by Cameron Reese, lyrics by Emily Drossell, and music by George Luton, will be presented April 8-9. The cast of the workplace satire, about an overworked and undervalued employee who turns down a request for a post-mortem, will feature Ry Albinus, Gabrielle Filloux, Abram Foster, Raphe Gilliam, Abigail Hart Goldman, Patty Irwin, Michael Leyte-Vidal, and Celia Tedde.
Gretchen Cryer and Gracie Hyland's House on Fire will follow April 16-17. Tyley Ross, Aurelia Williams, Guy LeMonnier, Gaelen Gilliland, Sophie Aknin, Gabriella Joy Rodriguez, Natasha Williams, Miles Lee, and Valeria Acevez will star in the musical about 13-year-old Sophia, who is facing a crisis. She knows the planet is in trouble and that her charismatic father is a big part of the problem: He owns the biggest fossil fuel company in the whole world.
Rashomon: The Musical, based on the play by Fay and Michael Kanin, will conclude the month of readings April 26-27. Featuring music by Michiru Oshima, lyrics by Ron Spivak, and a book by Josh Kanin and Spivak, the cast will include Marc delaCruz, Steven Eng, Brian José, Diane Phelan, Herman Sebek, Kevin Shiu, and Alice Kimyu. The musical is set in 1190 A.D. Japan as a Buddhist priest—unable to come to terms with man’s seeming inability to distinguish truth from lies—has a crisis of faith in the innate goodness of humankind.
Tickets are by invitation only. For more information visit YorkTheatre.org.
