The Irish Repertory Theatre production of David Ireland (Cyprus Avenue)'s Ulster American has extended performances for two weeks. Originally slated to close May 10, the play will now run through May 24.

The American premiere began performances March 6 before officially opening March 15. Ciarán O'Reilly (The Weir) directs. Read the reviews by clicking here.

The piece is centered on Tony winner Matthew Broderick, playing Oscar-winning Hollywood star Jay Conway as he, playwright Ruth Davenport (Geraldine Hughes), and director Leigh Carver (Max Baker) meet on the eve of the beginning of the rehearsals for a world premiere play they're all working on together. Press notes share the work "reveals some raw contradictions at the heart of modern storytelling and political posturing."

The work was a Fringe First winner in its 2018 world premiere at Edinburgh Fringe, and has since played London's Riverside Studios via Second Half Productions in 2023, starring Woody Harrelson, Andy Serkis, and Louisa Harland.

Irish Rep's production features scenic design by Charlie Corcoran (The Honey Trap), costume design by Orla Long (Irishtown), lighting design by Michael Gottlieb (It's a Wonderful Life!), original music and sound by Ryan Rumery (Beckett Briefs), sound design by Florian Staab (It's a Wonderful Life!), and prop design by Deirdre Brennan (The Weir). Karen Evanouskas serves as production stage manager with Jade Doina as assistant stage manager.
