The Off-Broadway revival of Jay Presson Allen's Tru has revealed a final three-week extension and will now run through May 10. Tony winner and five-time Emmy nominee Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Take Me Out, Modern Family) stars as late writer Truman Capote in the work, with Tony winner Rob Ashford directing.

The hit production originally extended performances prior to the start of performances March 6. The play officially opened at the Library of Upper East Side mansion House of the Redeemer March 19. Read reviews for the production by clicking here.

Joining Ferguson onstage is two-time Tony nominee Charlotte d'Amboise, who is a new onstage presence not featured in the original script. Like the original Broadway staging, this production also features some pre-recorded voices.

Tru—about the literary pioneer best known for In Cold Blood and Breakfast at Tiffany’s—debuted on Broadway in December 1989 at the Booth Theatre. Directed by the author, Robert Morse appeared in the title role and won the 1990 Tony for Best Actor in a Play.

The play, drawn entirely from Capote's own words, is set in December 1975 as the writer is alone in his New York apartment, reeling from a crisis that cost him the elite social circle he adored.

The production also has scenic decor and properties by Mike Harrison, lighting design by Emily Schmit, sound design by Christopher Darbassie, dialect coaching by Kate Wilson, associate direction by Stephen Sposito, and production stage management by Eloia Peterson.

Hudson Theatrical Associates serves as production supervisor with Jonathan Whitton and Christophe Desorbay of Seaview as general manager.

Ferguson won the 2022 Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his performance in the revival of Take Me Out. His other Broadway credits include On the Town, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Fully Committed, winning a Drama Desk Award for his work in the latter. He has appeared in seven productions for the Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park, including the recent Twelfth Night. Ferguson played Mitchell Pritchett on ABC’s Modern Family for 11 seasons, earning five Emmy nominations. His film credits include Cocaine Bear and A Very Jonas Christmas Movie and currently hosts the podcast Dinner’s On Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

Tru is produced by Seaview, OHenry Productions, Mickey Liddell & Pete Shilaimon, and Pam Hurst-Della Pietra & Stephen Della Pietra, in association with A Kid Named Beckett Productions, as well as Craig Balsam and Rebecca Gold Productions.
