Reviews are in for the world premiere of Charly Evon Simpson's new comedy sandblasted. The Vineyard Theatre and WP Theater production began previews Off-Broadway February 6 and opened February 27 with a run through March 13.
Marinda Anderson, Brittany Bellizeare, Andy Lucien, and Rolonda Watts star in the work, directed by Summer L. Williams, about two women on a sandy search for something that may not be real and their journey as they follow ADAH, a celebrity-turned-wellness-maven.
The creative team for the production includes scenic designer Matt Saunders, costume designer Montana Levi Blanco, lighting designer Stacey Derosier, sound designer Sadah Espii Proctor, hair and wig designer Cookie Jordan, dramaturg Nissy Aya, and casting director Kelly Gillespie.
The play comes on the heels of a broader cultural conversation about Dahl's work and the prejudice that was embedded in many of his most beloved stories.
Conceived and directed by Stephen Sachs, the work follows an 18 year-old who turned in his father to the FBI via real-life public statements and court transcripts.
Transferring from an earlier run at Brooklyn Academy of Music, the production is one of two Arlekin productions playing the Off-Broadway company this fall.
