Dog Day Afternoon, Stephen Adly Guirgis' play adaptation of the 1975 film, opened on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre March 30. Reviewers are out now.

The play, based on a true story, follows two men, Sonny Amato (The Bear's Jon Bernthal) and Sal DeSilva (Ebon Moss-Bachrach of The Fantastic Four), who try to stick up a bank to chaotic results.

The show also stars John Ortiz (Jesus Hopped the "A" Train) as Detective Ferrara, Jessica Hecht (Eureka Day) as Colleen, Spencer Garrett (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) as Sheldon, Michael Kostroff as Butterman, Elizabeth Canavan as Roxxanna/Sonny's Mom/Gloria, Esteban Andres Cruz as Leon, Danny Johnson as Mr. Eddy, Paola Lázaro as Guadalupe, Wilemina Olivia-Garcia as Lorna, Christopher Sears as Ray Ray, Michael Shayan as Young Nesbit, Jeff Still as Widower Dave, and Andrea Syglowski as Alison. Understudies Brian D. Coats, Alex J. Gould, Dom Martello, Michael Puzzo, and Carmen Zilles round out the company. Casting is by The Telsey Office's Karyn Casl.

Two-time Olivier winner Rupert Goold directs. 

The production features scenic design by David Korins (Hamilton), costume design by Brenda Abbandandolo (Good Night, and Good Luck), lighting design by Isabella Byrd (Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club), sound design by Cody Spencer (The Outsiders), hair and wig design by Leah J. Loukas (Good Night, and Good Luck), makeup design by Katie Gell, and dialect coaching by Kate Wilson (Oedipus). Barclay Stiff serves as production stage manager, and Rory McGregor is associate director.

Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures' Mark Kaufman, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, and Patrick Catullo are producing. Warner Bros. released the original film.
