The new jazz and opera-infused musical from Taylor Mac and Matt Ray gets to hang at HERE a little longer. The Hang was originally scheduled to close February 20, but extended through March 6. The production has now added three final performances to its schedule: February 12 and 26, and March 5, all at 2 PM ET. Previews began January 20, ahead of an official January 23 opening.
Featuring a book and lyrics by Mac and music by Ray, the musical imagines the final hours of the life of Greek philosopher Socrates in a spectacle full of dance, debates, queer romps, glitter, and tulle.
The cast of The Hang includes Mac, Kenneth Ard, El Beh, Ryan Chittaphong, Kat Edmonson, Queen Esther, Wesley Garlington, Synead Cidney Nichols, and Trebian Pollard. Choreography is by Chanon Judson. Niegel Smith directs the work.
