New musical Starstruck will make its premiere at Bucks County Playhouse in the new year. With a book by Beth Malone (Fun Home) and Mary Ann Stratton and music and lyrics by Emily Saliers (Indigo Girls), Lorin Latarro (The Who's Tommy, Chess) will direct and choreograph the Cyrano-inspired musical. It will run at the Pennsylvania theatre February 20-March 21, with an official opening night February 28.
Spinning off of the story of Cyrano de Bergerac, Starstruck follows Cyd DeBerg in the small town of Sawtooth, Idaho, as she aims to create the first International Dark Sky Reserve in the United States—against the wishes of her fellow townspeople. But soon, Cyd finds herself in an unlikely love triangle.
“I started writing Starstruck during the pandemic—mostly because I needed to believe in something beautiful again,” said Malone in a statement. “My best friend and co-writer Mary Ann Stratton and I decided to create something that felt alive and full of hope when the world felt anything but. We’ve both been lifelong Indigo Girls fans, so when Emily Saliers came on board to write the music and lyrics, it felt like the universe saying, ‘Yes, keep going.’ Starstruck reminds us that even in the dark, we’re connected—to the stars, to each other and to the next brave thing we try to create.”
