Lin-Manuel Miranda will make a brief return to the stage for three performances of Freestyle Love Supreme next year in Las Vegas.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning creator of Hamilton and In the Heights will be part of the production at the Summit Showroom inside The Venetian Resort January 12-14, 2023.
The cast also includes Simone Acosta AKA Sims, Andrew Bancroft AKA Jelly Donut, Richard Baskin, Jr. AKA Rich Midway, Kaila Mullady AKA Kaiser Rözé, Morgan Reilly AKA Hummingbird, Gable Johnson III AKA Honeycomb, Manny Houston AKA Manny PacksAwow, and Dizzy Senze AKA Dizzy.
The show, conceived by Anthony Veneziale and created by Miranda, Thomas Kail, and Veneziale 20 years ago, features a non-stop blend of hip-hop, improvisational comedy, music, and vocal stylings.
“I knew I had to go back to Vegas after our electric opening week,” said Miranda. “Every Freestyle Love Supreme show is unique; that's the secret sauce. The rest is made up by this unstoppable group of actors, singers, beatboxers, and you, the audience. See you there.”
Performances began in Las Vegas November 10 and are scheduled to continue through April 23, 2023.
The recipient of a Special Tony Award, Freestyle Love Supreme has played two Broadway engagements and just completed a national tour. The documentary We Are Freestyle Love Supreme premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2020, was nominated for a Grammy Award, and streams on Hulu.
Filmed in 2023, the one-night-only event featured Brian Stokes Mitchell, Audra McDonald, Peter Friedman, and more from the Ahrens and Flaherty musical's original cast.
Surrounded by period-accurate, 19th-century holiday decorations lit via candlelight, the 70-minute production is based on Dickens' own script of the classic.
