VideoIs Michaela Jaé Rodriguez Heading Back to Little Shop of Horrors?
The Pose and Loot star teased a second go at Audrey in the Howard Ashman-Alan Menken musical after celebrating the Off-Broadway revival's current star, Jinkx Monsoon.
Is stage and screen star Michaela Jaé Rodriguez headed back to Skid Row? The Pose and Loot star was asked to comment on the current star of Off-Broadway's Little Shop of Horrors, trans icon and two-time RuPaul's Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon, in an April 10 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen—and she seems to be teasing a return to Audrey herself.
Rodriguez previously starred as Audrey in a separate 2019 production of the musical at California's Pasadena Playhouse, opposite George Salazar as Seymour.
"I'm sending her all the love," she says of Monsoon, answering a viewer question. "I think she's gonna do amazing. ... It's great to see trans girls up there doing it." The viewer had also asked if she would revisit the role in the Howard Ashman-Alan Menken musical's current Off-Broadway revival, to which Rodriguez says with a wink, "You never know. There might be something pop up there, who knows."
Watch Rodriguez answer the question in the video above and decide for yourself if we should be anticipating new casting at the Westside Theatre.
The Off-Broadway revival hasn't announced a final performance for Monsoon yet, but she's scheduled to re-join the company of Broadway's Chicago, reprising her Broadway debut performance as Matron "Mama" Morton, beginning June 27.
