Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) has revitalized its Professional Development Program, which will begin accepting applications November 11.
Formerly known as SDCF's Observership Program, the Professional Development Program will give early career directors and choreographers to learn from and support experienced directors and choreographers during the production process. Opportunities will be tailored around specific applications and circumstances broadly within three categories: Shadows, Observers, and Fellows. Shadows will watch a particular part of the production process via a short-term exposure opportunity. Like Shadows, Observers will also watch the production process; however, observerships are a production-long opportunity from first rehearsal to opening night. Lastly, Fellows will support a director and/or choreographer as part of the artistic team over the course of the production process.
The program will offer an average of 15 opportunities a year, with stipends and awards for each beginning at $600 per week. Additional support for participants will include further mentorship such as a résumé review, artistic statement reviews, and more. Opportunities will be offered annually in fall, winter, and spring.
