More casting has been revealed for the upcoming Off-Broadway encore run of Michael Griffo's Pen Pals, set to begin at DR2 Theatre August 15. Now extended, the run will continue through December 21. Suzanne Barabas is again directing.
Newly joining the rotating lineup of actors are Sharna Burgess and Paige Davis (September 17-28), Catherine Curtin and Marcia Cross (October 29-November 9), and Emily Skinner and Donna Lynne Champlin (December 10-21). Kathleen Chalfant and Ellen McLaughlin, previously announced to perform September 17-28, will now star October 1-12. Previously announced casting also includes Nancy McKeon and Gail Winar (August 15-31), Michelle Clunie and Megan Follows (September 3-14), Kate Burton and Pauletta Pearson Washington (October 15-26), and Sharon Lawrence and Maureen McCormick (November 12-23).
The work follows Bernie and Mags, two women living in different countries who are best friends despite having never met, thanks to a 50-year pen-pal relationship. The work made its world premiere last year at New Jersey Repertory Company. McKeon and Barabas are reprising their work from that run, and the earlier Off-Broadway bow.
The creative team includes set designer Jessica Parks, costume designer David C. Wollard, lighting designer Jill Nagle, and sound designer Nick Simone. Rose Riccardi is serving as production stage manager.
Lisa Dozier Shacket is producing with Joe Trentacosta, Logan DeWitt, Anthony Hazzard, Scott Stolzenberg, Holly Garman, and Michael Graf, and in association with NJ Repertory Company. General management is by LDK Productions' Michael Shannon.
