The Broadway premiere of Jordan E. Cooper's Ain't No Mo' has completed its cast. The work is set to begin previews November 3 prior to its December 1 opening at Belasco Theatre.
Cooper, reprising the role of Peaches in his Broadway debut as previously announced, will be joined by members of the show's 2019 Off-Broadway run at The Public Theater, including current 1776 star Crystal Lucas-Perry as Passenger #5, Fedna Jacquet as Passenger #1, Marchánt Davis as Passenger #2, and Ebony Marshall-Oliver as Passenger #4. Shannon Matesky joins the company as Passenger #3.
Rounding out the company as understudies are Nik Alexander, Jasminn Johnson, Michael Rishawn, Kedren Spencer, Brennie Tellu, and Emma Van Lare.
The comedy imagines what would happen if the U.S. government offered Black Americans one-way plane tickets to Africa. The show played a world-premiere run at Off-Broadway's The Public Theater in 2019.
Director Stevie Walker-Webb, who directed the show's Off-Broadway staging, will make his Broadway debut. Walker-Webb's creative team will also feature lighting designer Adam Honoré, scenic designer Scott Pask, costume designer Emilio Sosa, co-sound designers Jonathan Deans and Taylor Williams, and wig designer Mia M. Neal.
"Not since the original Dreamgirls, have I been so moved by a piece of theatre," said Daniels in an earlier statement. "I knew it would take something extraordinary to finally lure me to Broadway, and Ain’t No Mo’ is it. Jordan E. Cooper is a revelation, and I can’t wait for a whole new audience to lay witness to what he has created. Broadway ain’t gon’ be the same!"
