The Broadway production of the Tony-nominated musical & Juliet, which recently welcomed Maya Boyd to the title role at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, recouped its entire $17 million original investment as of April 14.

The international hit musical, which opened at the Sondheim November 17, 2022, is the first new musical of the 2022-2023 Broadway season to announce its recoupment. The Main Stem production has grossed more than $93,000,000 and welcomed more than 650,000 audience members to date.

“We’re so proud to be part of a show that brings so much joy to so many people,” producers Max Martin, Tim Headington, Theresa Steele Page, Jenny Petersson, Martin Dodd, and Eva Price said in a joint statement. “It’s exciting to be part of the theatre industry’s continuing recovery, and join a growing list of musicals that have recouped post-pandemic, which is further proof that nothing compares to live theatre and the shared experience of human connection. We’re thrilled to continue to share our story of second chances with audiences across the globe.”

The current Broadway cast includes Boyd as Juliet, three-time Olivier winner David Bedella as Lance, Tony nominee Betsy Wolfe as Anne Hathaway, Oliver Tompsett as Shakespeare, Justin David Sullivan as May, Charity Angél Dawson as Angélique, Ben Jackson Walker as Romeo, and Philippe Arroyo as Francois, with Daniel Assetta, Andrew Chappelle, Michael Iván Carrier, Phil Colgan, Virgil Gadson, Makai Hernandez, Najah Hetsberger, Bobby “Pocket” Horner, Joomin Hwang, Megan Kane, Alaina Vi Maderal, Daniel J. Maldonado, Brittany Nicholas, Ava Noble, Jasmine Rafael, Matt Raffy, Tiernan Tunnicliffe, and Rachel Webb.

This year, & Juliet will launch a U.K. tour (in July), a North American tour (in September), and a German production (in October), marking the sixth country to welcome the show in less than five years since its West End premiere in 2019. With productions in Australia (currently in Sydney through July 12) and Singapore, & Juliet has now played on four continents.

The production also has direction by Luke Sheppard, choreography by Jennifer Weber, musical supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements by Bill Sherman, scenic design by Soutra Gilmour, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Howard Hudson, sound design by Gareth Owen, video projection design by Andrzej Goulding, hair, wig, and makeup design by J.
