Off-Broadway theatre Classic Stage Company will host a one-night-only benefit concert performance of The Rink, the 1984 musical from Terrence McNally, John Kander, Fred Ebb. Tony Award winners Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone) and Jessie Mueller (Waitress) will lead the cast as Anna and Angel, respectively.

The event will take place September 15 at 7 PM at CSC’s Lynn F. Angelson Theater.

The evening will be directed by Dave Solomon (Tootsie), with music direction by Greg Jarrett (Kiss of the Spider Woman), choreography by Shannon Lewis (Just in Time), music supervision by Sam Davis (Kiss of the Spider Woman), and casting by Alaine Aldaffer and Lisa Donadio.

The Rink was originally produced on Broadway in 1984, starring Chita Rivera and Liza Minnelli. It follows Anna, a widow who lives above the  dilapidated remains of the roller skating rink she owns in Coney Island. The return of her daughter Anna forces the mother and daughter to confront their past in order to move forward. Kander and Ebb's score introduced such showtune favorites as  “Colored Lights” and “Chief Cook and Bottle Washer." The original production ran for just eight months in 1984. It was nominated for five Tony Awards and won one, for Rivera's performance. Kander, Ebb, McNally, and Rivera would reunite to Tony-winning effect in 1993, with Kiss of the Spider Woman; and again in 2015 (posthumously for Ebb) with The Visit.

Ticket prices to The Rink concert will range from $100 to $500, and underwriting packages start at $1,000. Underwriters will receive exclusive benefits at the event. To become an underwriter or for corporate package opportunities, email [email protected] or call 212.677.4210 x20.

Tickets are now available ClassicStage.org.
