Broad Strokes, a solo musical comedy from Cat Cohen (The Twist…She’s Gorgeous, Only Murders in the Building) with music by Cohen and David Dabbon, will make its New York premiere this summer.
Following a sold-out run at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Broad Strokes will play a limited eight-week engagement at the Lucille Lortel Theatre July 14-September 5 with an official opening July 27. Alex Timbers (Just in Time, Moulin Rouge! The Musical) will direct.
After suffering a stroke at 30 caused by a hole in her heart, comedian Cohen
transforms this near-death experience into a song-filled solo show about mortality, hypochondria, and the undeniable thrill
of being the main character.
“I’m so excited for this chapter of Broad Strokes," said Cohen in a statement. "This show is my favorite thing I’ve ever created, so to bring it to my fave city with this dream team is an honor. I’m truly counting down the days until I get to stroll through my neighborhood for our first performance at the Lortel!"
"I am thrilled to join Cat in bringing Broad Strokes to NYC this summer," added Timbers. "It's a surprising, hilarious, and captivating show that I know New Yorkers will love. Cat Cohen
is a singular voice in comedy, and I cannot wait for theatre and comedy
fans alike to fall in love with the incredible show that Cat has
created."
The production will also feature scenic design by Derek McLane, lighting design by Jake DeGroot, costume design by Kelsey Randall, and sound design by Cody Spencer. David Dabbon is music supervisor.
Broad Strokes is produced by Mike & Carlee Productions by special arrangement with the Lucille Lortel Theatre.
