Boston's Huntington Theatre will host a world premiere run of Matthew Lombardo's new comedy When Playwrights Kill April 3-18. Noah Himmelstein is directing.
The production has assembled a cast of stage favorites to star in the new work, including Tony winner Beth Leavel as Brooke Remington, Tony winner Matt Doyle as Jack Hawkins, Kevin Chamberlin as Oliver Kendall Walker, Adam Heller as Freddie Carlton, Tony winner Marissa Jaret Winokur as Liz Jennings, and Tomás Matos as Tobias Deschanel. Further casting, by Nick Peciaro, is to be announced.
The backstage comedy centers on an aspiring playwright suffering through a disastrous out-of-town try-out with an insane star leading the cast. When all other options seem untenable, he decides saving this play might just involve murdering its leading lady.
The work was previously set to premiere with Connecticut's The Bushnell in 2022, a run that was later canceled in favor of further development of the work. An industry presentation was held in NYC last year with much of the same cast set to star in the Boston bow.
Naughty Playwright, LLC, Bryan McCaffrey, Laura Z. Barket, Alan Seales, Raymond Esposito, Amy Wen, and Jason and Kira Turchin are producing, with BPM Theatrical serving as general managers.
